More Changes?

ITB: Eagles Face Tough Decisions on Both Sides of Ball

by

More changes could be on the way for the Philadelphia Eagles in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Andrew DiCecco discussed the current state of the Eagles and what could change going forward.

James Bradberry

Eagles CB James Bradberry has struggled throughout the season and could be better suited in a new role

Nic Morrow

Geoff Mosher: “If he can’t play, you are looking at a starting base linebacker tandem of Shaq Leonard and Ben VanSumeren. I don’t care who you are playing, if those are your two linebackers that is not a great situation. That just compounds what they are trying to do which is find themselves a defensive identity right now.”

Andrew DiCecco: “Morrow got a lot of flack, and rightfully so, for that San Francisco 49ers game that he was abysmal in, but by and large he has been really steady. He is a really smart player, really active, and I thought he was their best defensive player on Monday night. To not have him, you are probably going to have to use a little bit of Shaq Leonard, but a heavy dose of Kevin Byard and Sydney Brown.”

Avonte Maddox

Mosher: “If he can continue to be a full participant, you have to be able to get him in there a little bit. You don’t save him for the playoffs, you have to get him some conditioning and get him up to speed.”

Jalen Hurts

Mosher: “There were plays to be made that were not made. Playcalling and quarterbacking go hand in hand; when the quarterback is not seeing right, then it is up to your playcaller to find different plays that make the reads easily definable. Against Seattle, they did that. At some point, the quarterback who just got this huge contract and had this great MVP season last year has to get back to seeing the clear pictutre.”

DiCecco: “A lot of things that plagued him in 2021: the short eyes, not seeing the field, you are seeing a lot of those resurface now.”

Matt Patricia

Mosher: “Patricia played a lot of man defense with a two safety shell. Sean Desai was either going to play Cover 3 zone a lot or Cover 1 man with some simulated pressures in there. Matt Patricia is a guy whose whole defensive philosophy from the Belichick tree is to play man defense. Now he is trying to run a Fangio scheme and trying to put his fingerprint on it by playing a lot of man, but the Eagles are not built to play man without Darius Slay.”

James Bradberry

Mosher: “Bradberry has always been a zone corner, but you can’t play zone all of the time. When it comes to third down, you have to be able to play man and pressure…they might have to suck it up and have Bradberry as the first and second down corner, but in subpackages, maybe he could cover the tight end.”

DiCecco: “I like Bradberry’s length. When they put him in slot in training camp, I thought that was in preparation for Darren Waller twice a year, the Travis Kelce, the George Kittle, getting your longer corner who has a really big wingspan matched up on those tight ends.”
