ITB: Eagles Should Take Command of Trenches Against Washington

by

The Philadelphia Eagles will face their first divisional test of the season when the Washington Commanders come to town.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher previewed the big matchups that will determine Week 4 and offered their final score predictions.

Chase Young

The Washington Commanders’ defensive line is strong but faces a tough task against the Eagles o-line

Washington O-Line

Adam Caplan: “They don’t have a stud. Charles Leno was a Bears refugee, nice story but a below average tackle. Nick Gates is a refugee from the Giants, Sam Cosmi is a tackle playing out of position as a guard, Andrew Wylie is below average. The Eagles should eat.”

Washington D-Line

Caplan: “Montez Sweat is having a good year, Da’Ron Payne is one of the best d-tackles in football, Jonathan Allen still gets it done, Chase Young has been hurt a lot, but is finally healthy and they are hoping to get him going. They key here is the interior of the Commanders defense against the interior of the Eagles offense. The only chance Washington has is to make Hurts get rid of the football sooner than they want.”

Blitzing

Geoff Mosher: “There will be an opportunity for Jack Del Rio to throw some pressure at Jalen Hurts and that will be an opportunity to get A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith involved…remember last year, Smith took advantage of early pressures and had a huge game.”

Washington Run Game

Mosher: “Mathematically, you should be able to run against anybody, but personnel matters and the Eagles have superior personnel in the trenches. Even if you give Washington the numerical advantage, I am not sure it is going to matter because the Eagles are beating double teams as good as I have ever seen a defensive line beat double teams.”

Caplan: “Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Fletcher Cox are playing out of their minds. They are in trouble.”

Final Score Predictions

Caplan: “I don’t see them scoring much. I have it 24-13, Eagles.”

Mosher: “This game has 31-16 written all over it. I am leaning towards that direction, that’s an Eagles win.”
