‘Encouraged’

Even with the NFC East title secured for the second year in a row, the Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to evolve.

On the Week 16 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave their takeaways from the team’s 29-18 win over the Washington Commanders.

Special Teams

Geoff Mosher: “Special teams was a disaster all the way around, from the fumble to taking the ball out of the end zone and only getting to the 19 with Will Shipley. That’s the kind of stuff that will and can hurt you in the postseason. I’m more worried about [Jake Elliott] right now. He went from ‘Jake the Make’ to holding your breath every time he lines up to kick a field goal.”

Adam Caplan: “Braden Mann has been phenomenal, their kickoff returns have been decent, not great, but this Jake Elliott thing is kind of a crisis right now.”

Run Game

Caplan: “Offensively, I’m encouraged because (Saquon) Barkley is coming on here. He came into it with some juice. I have to mention our guy Tank Bigsby.”

Mosher: “You can give [Bigsby] a series, it’s not going to hurt Saquon…I think of other teams that have bona fide number one running backs, like the Packers with Josh Jacobs. They will put in Emmanuel Wilson…I think you can get Bigsby more opportunities and that just helps keep Saquon fresh.”

Passing Game

Mosher: “I’m encouraged by how much they are living right now in spread empty. It started a couple of weeks ago but it has really picked up over the last two weeks…I thought Jalen Hurts looked pretty decisive, pretty willing to make some throws into windows. When you go spread empty, you make a defense declare a little bit more and you also provide opportunities to get rid of the ball quickly.”

Caplan: “They were more aggressive with the pass game. Hurts attempted 17 passes with four scrambles in the first half.”
