ITB: Would Birds Draft Bijan At 10?

by

Top-30 visits are ramping up in preparation for the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, where the Philadelphia Eagles will have the fortune of making a top-10 selection.

On the latest “Inside The Birds” podcast, Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided intel on prospects that have been linked to the Eagles.

Bijan Robinson

Could the Philadelphia Eagles buck the trend and select RB Bijan Robinson in the top 10 of the NFL draft?

Bijan Robinson

Adam Caplan: “Robinson visited Philadelphia. I would be stunned if they drafted him at number 10. It’s not the way they do things. He’s one of the elite players in this draft, but I don’t see it.”

Geoff Mosher: “I do wonder if, subconsciously, the Eagles are able to take a great running back and a defensive end or offensive tackle and fairly rank them without having a bias towards the defensive end or offensive tackle. We know there is positional priority, but you also have to make sure when you’re doing your rankings, you’re not overdoing the priority part and making the lesser caliber player higher.”

Jalen Carter

Caplan: “Some teams are going to have him as the number one player of the draft. But you have to get through the legal issue, because you have to know whether a suspension is coming and whether you can trust him.”

Mosher: “Character is big for the Eagles. Most of the kids they have taken [early] have had really clean records, whether it’s legally or how they are judged, and are just good, intelligent kids.”

Trade Down

Mosher: “It’s not so easy to trade down. There has to be somebody at [pick] 10 that teams are going to want to trade up for. If you want a haul, it helps when there is a quarterback.”

Caplan: “We know two quarterbacks are going in the top 10. What we don’t know is if someone will trade up for Anthony Richardson. He’s sort of the wild card here, because there’s so many teams that still need a QB for the future. Will Levis could go anywhere in the top 20.”

Christian Gonzalez

Caplan: “He’s very good, he definitely has a first-round grade. But is he elite? I don’t think so…”

Mosher: “When you’re talking to a personnel person or scout, it’s not what they say, but what they don’t say that really stands out to you. I haven’t heard anyone say anything bad about Christian Gonzalez. The traits are fantastic, he’s a great athlete and can play the cornerback position well. But when I talk to people who have watched a lot of his tape, and then I ask about Devon Witherspoon or Joey Porter Jr., I don’t see the same excitement in Gonzalez. There’s something missing there.”
