ITB: Joint Practice Observations Ahead of Pats Preseason Matchup

by

Many starters for the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles got their first chance of the offseason to take on an opponent.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Andrew DiCecco provided intel from the team’s joint practices with the New England Patriots.

Cooper DeJean

Andrew DiCecco: “He looked good, but he only participated in individual drills…He looked pretty smooth and fluid going through the motions there. After practice, he was available and mentioned he’s going to be fixating on what he was in the spring: nickel and corner.”

Geoff Mosher: “I do believe that some time in the season when Cooper DeJean is ready and shows it, he’ll be the nickel and Quinyon Mitchell will go back outside.”

Mekhi Becton

DiCecco: “He has certainly widened the gap between him and Tyler Steen…He’s reinvigorated coming off that tumultuous stint with the Jets. He really seems to be taking to his new position, working with Jeff Stoutland certainly helps. Working with an offensive line as talented as the Eagles have, you don’t have to be the centerpiece…I’m really excited to see what he’s able to do. He’s very fun to watch on one-on-ones, leaning on guys, clearing the way in the run game. I think the Eagles have their right guard.”

Jordan Davis

DiCecco: “He has surprised me; he has held up well. It doesn’t look like there is any conditioning issues, any ill effects to the weather or acclimating.”

Nakobe Dean

DiCecco: “When they opened up in 11-on-11, alongside Devin White was Nakobe Dean…the fact that on day 12, now it’s Dean starting, that is a testament to the summer that he is having, steadily showing progression, learning how to acquit himself in space better.”

Mosher: “I have been wondering if this moment was going to come…I’m very interested to see for the game and next week’s practices if Nakobe starts running with the first team more over (Zack) Baun. I imagine a lot of that decision will be made on what Vic Fangio sees in this preseason game.”

A.J. Brown

DiCecco: “It was a really heavy A.J. day. A.J. had some really good work against Christian Gonzalez, the Patriots first round corner of 2023. There weren’t a lot of explosive plays, [there were] a lot of timing-based plays, a lot of intermediary routes that they were running. A.J. is just so good, he had about 10 or more targets that day.”
