QB2 Shuffle
Eagles and Browns Swap Backups
The everchanging backup quarterback picture for the Philadelphia Eagles will look different yet again in 2025.
Per NFL Network, the team is trading away Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round pick.

GETTY IMAGES: QB Kenny Pickett has been traded to the Cleveland Browns after one season as Jalen Hurts’ backup.
Formerly a 2022 first round pick, Pickett joins his third team in three seasons after the Pittsburgh Steelers traded him to Philadelphia in March of 2024. He saw significant action in two games and made one start in relief of Jalen Hurts in the regular season, throwing for 291 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Born and raised an Eagles fan, Pickett accomplished his lifelong dream by taking the field in the final snaps of the Super Bowl victory.
For the fourth straight year, Hurts will have a different direct backup. With Thompson-Robinson’s on-field resume less than impressive, with 1 TD and 10 INT in five starts over two years, the door is open for Tanner McKee to seize the QB2 job in his third season.
