In another slugfest, the Philadelphia Eagles came out on top to take down the Kansas City Chiefs and start the season 2-0.

O-Line

Adam Caplan: “The pass protection was incredible…Their offensive line did not play well in Week 1, particularly in pass protection. This game against the Chiefs in a hostile environment, sometimes you can’t hear. Overall, that’s one of the many things I thought were very positive from this game.”

Geoff Mosher: “I was expecting to hear Landon Dickerson’s name in a negative way, like giving up a pressure. But in general, he and Cam (Jurgens) played well…there were times Jalen Hurts was under duress, but there were times where Steve Spagnuolo is sending six or seven men, that’s not on the offensive line.”

Andrew DiCecco: “I thought Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, and Lane Johnson played a really good game.”

Kevin Patullo

DiCecco: “It was curious from a passing game standpoint. The routes were very compressed, there was a lot of short passes and dumpoffs. When you keep hearing the word ‘evolve,’ you expect to see more of an expansive attack, pushing the ball downfield, using the middle of the field.”

Mosher: “You’re going to hear a lot of questions to the coaches about the evolution or the new iteration of the offense that just has not presented itself yet. There’s no evidence to suggest that this offense is any different on a week-to-week basis than it was last year.”

Vic Fangio

Mosher: “He was pressuring them, sending guys. It clearly made (Patrick) Mahomes rattled. He got some runs out of it, but he also threw a lot of high, rushed passes…Those matter and those all happened because he was hurried.”

Caplan: “They had at least seven blitzes in the first half, which was interesting…They knew they had to do something, their pass rush was nonexistent for the most part last week.”

Za’Darius Smith

Caplan: “He played and played a lot and seemed to play well.”

Mosher: “I was starting to get Josh Sweat vibes out of Za’Darius Smith because not only was he rushing the passer, he was playing the run pretty well, setting the edge. It looked like his athleticism, his length, and his size was giving the Chiefs offensive line trouble.”

DiCecco: “You could tell talking to him last week that was itching to get back out and play in a regular season game. He definitely added some juice to the pass rush and you could see his size really come into play. I thought he brought some really good energy to that group.”

Andrew Mukuba

Caplan: “You make your own luck. That was an unbelievable [interception] return. He is a guy that had a number of big plays in college. That was obviously the game changer and they were able to go up by 10.”

Mosher: “It just seems like he’s such a natural fit for what Vic wants to do. On top of that, he is always in the right place at the right time.”

DiCecco: “Just the versatility and what he brings to that backend, allowing it to be multiple. When you see someone like Vic Fangio go to him Week 1, that shows you the kind of confidence he had in him…In this game, he definitely stepped up in a big way and that’s what he can do: take the football away.”
