‘Doesn’t Work’
ITB Postgame Live: Same Issues Plague Birds in Season Finale
With a 27-10 loss to the 6-11 New York Giants, the Philadelphia Eagles ended their regular season with a whimper.
On the latest edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame Live,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher were joined by former Eagles tight end Clay Harbor to break down the team’s latest defeat and state of the struggling organization heading into the playoffs.
Defense
Clay Harbor: “Matt Patricia has shown his defense doesn’t work. In my opinion, they should consider going back to Sean Desai. This was the New York Giants you are talking about here and you can’t stop them. What do you think a good team in the playoffs is going to do?”
Adam Caplan: “To say it has not worked would be an understatement. Players are not comfortable, the tape shows there are some real issues here.”
Geoff Mosher: “It’s one thing to go from one guy to another if it’s a similar guy and you just want the same concepts but a different set of eyes. Matt Patricia did not run the style of defense Sean Desai was running. To ask him and the players to execute better instead of worse is a reflection of a very impulsive decision that is hurting them.”
Jalen Hurts
Harbor: “It doesn’t seem like he is as comfortable or confident. He is not picking up the blitzes the same, not getting to the hot reads the same. He is not as quick in his decision making with everything that he is doing this year.”
Screen Game
Mosher: “The way the Giants jumped on [the interception], they knew it was coming. When you are doing the same things over and over out of the same formations, you are giving the defense an edge.”
Caplan: “It shouldn’t be this tough. Nick Sirianni on this offense has to take a look at himself. It’s not working.”
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Caplan: “I worry about Chris Godwin who might play in the slot, Trey Palmer is a really good rookie, and the great Mike Evans who has had a great year. Defensively, they are inconsistent but getting better.”
Harbor: “They have some weapons and it’s going to come down to if Baker (Mayfield) can get them the ball because they are probably going to be open. You have to get pressure on Baker Mayfield, hopefully you can get pressure with that front four.”
