ITB: What Hollywood Signing Means for Wideouts
The Philadelphia Eagles added insurance to their wide receiver depth chart following the signing of Marquise Brown.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher dove into the depth of the receiving room after the recent signing.

Marquise Brown
Adam Caplan: “It gives them an insurance policy with someone who has started. When you see the deal is up to $6.5 million, it’s not only less than that, it could be significantly less than that. They have the insurance policy if A.J. Brown’s gone, or if Brown’s back, he’s their third receiver. Boy, did they need depth at receiver.”
Geoff Mosher: “He’s someone who has higher upside than Jahan Dotson, he has blistering speed…He has a chance to give you more out of a number three receiver spot than you got out of Dotson because he is a more talented receiver, but this is not your archetypical slot receiver.”
Darius Cooper
Caplan: “Great training camp, great story in the preseason. This is a big offseason for him. If AJ is traded, they’re going to need another receiver just for competition.”
Mosher: “If they had to play a game today and they wanted to run a little bit out of 11 personnel, then that was the role Cooper had last year: the slot receiver in short-yardage run situations.”
A.J. Brown
Caplan: “We know for cap purposes [a trade] can’t get executed until June 2. The cap hit is over $40 million. Dates matter.”
Slot Receiver
Mosher: “I really think the Eagles need a typical slot receiver for this offense…They have been a shot play offense too much and they want to stop being that. If you want a better marriage between your run and pass game using play action, then it really helps to have a guy who just understands the nuance of playing slot the way Jason Avant did, go across the middle and make plays.”
Caplan: “DeVonta (Smith) has done very well. His slot numbers are good, but he’s not a true slot receiver.”
