ITB: Roseman Creative With Contract Stucture – Again

by

Howie Roseman, the Eagles’ executive vice president of football operations, is seeing his offseason plan falling into place.

On the latest “Inside The Birds” podcast, Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher dived into the details of the team’s most recent hirings, signings, and contracts.

The Philadelphia Eagles new signing at RB, Rashaad Penny, comes at an extremely cheap cost

Taver Johnson

Adam Caplan: “I talked to someone who coached with him year ago. He said he’s a sharp guy, not the most vocal but he’s a very detailed coach. The word I got was he’s more of a college coach, but he has worked at the pro level.”

Justin Evans

Caplan: “He missed 2019-21. Three years on IR, but he persevered, showed he could still play in the league with the Saints. Really good athlete, he can hit, he can tackle. He’s on a make-good contract, if he wants to make his money, he has to make the roster. Nicholas Morrow is on a similar situation.”

Rashaad Penny

Caplan: “Boston Scott got more guaranteed money than Rashaad Penny. Penny has $600k fully guaranteed at signing, and 10k in per-game roster bonuses. If he’s available for 17 games, he gets 170 grand.”

Geoff Mosher: “It’s amazing. If Penny stays healthy and even has around 800 yards and six touchdowns, the money that they’re paying is highway robbery.”

Fletcher Cox

Caplan: “Ten million is fully guaranteed at signing. They fully guaranteed his base salary, $1.5 million, and then the rest of it, $8.5 million, is treated as a signing bonus. He has a four-year void.”

Mosher: “The money is spread out to 2027, but it was structured so that it voids to allow for a post-June 1 release. If he’s not on the team next year, they’re not going to take that $8.5 million all next year, it’s going to be something like $2 million next year, and then 2025 is going to take the biggest hit.”

Darius Slay

Caplan: “Slay’s cap number went from $24 million to $11.87 million. They fully guaranteed at signing $24.45 million. The base salary in the first two years are very low, signing bonus $10.185 million and the dreaded $11.64 million option bonus.”
