Man for Mannion

Birds Bring Aboard Wideout Familiar with Scheme

The Philadelphia Eagles added another reinforcement to its wide receiver room, acquiring Dontayvion Wicks from the Green Bay Packers, in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and 2027 sixth-round pick, a league source confirms the initial ESPN report.

A league source also confirmed that Wicks will sign a one-year, $12.5 million extension. He’ll be under contract through 2027.

While newly minted offensive coordinator Sean Mannion has familiarity with Wicks during their overlap in Green Bay, TEs coach/run game coordinator Ryan Mahaffey — who presided over the Packers’ wide receiver room the past two seasons — worked with him closely. The financial commitment to Wicks suggests both coaches valued his ability and a more expanded role awaits.

For perspective, the Packers boast an abundance of riches at wide receiver in Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed and Christian Watson. Wicks, albeit talented, appeared to get a bit lost in the mix.

Wicks becomes the third external addition to the group this offseason, as the Eagles signed also inked wide receivers Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore to one-year deals in March. The acquisition of Wicks to a crowded house also shouldn’t preclude the Eagles from adding to the room in the draft, as the position is still a long-term need.

It’s a crowded house at the position, to be sure, as Wicks joins a room that also includes A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Brown, Moore, Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson, Britain Covey, Quez Watkins and Danny Gray.

While A.J. Brown remains on the roster for now, the addition of Wicks certainly heightens the likelihood that the three-time All-Pro will be moved.

Wicks, who played collegiately at the University of Virginia, was a 2023 fifth-round draft pick of the Packers. He turns 25 in June. The 6-foot-1, 206-pound pass-catcher has totaled 1,328 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on 118 receptions over 46 games (18 starts).

In 2025, Wicks logged 30 receptions for 332 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games (408 snaps).

On the Eagles, Wicks’ role has yet to be determined. There’s reason for intrigue, as Wicks has made the most of his sporadic opportunities through his first three seasons. He creates space with razor-sharp route-running and has the frame and strength to attack the football and outmuscle defensive backs. Now part of an offense in which he figures to have a more defined role, Wicks will have an opportunity to build on that.
