Bright Future
ITB: Young Defense Locked In Long Term
The Philadelphia Eagles are set with one of the youngest defenses in the NFL.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan looked into the future of the team on the defensive side of the ball.
Moro Ojomo
Geoff Mosher: “It’ll be an interesting year if he can adequately replace Milton Williams.”
Adam Caplan: “This is year three. If he kicks butt, he’s another guy they can sign to an extension.”
Jihaad Campbell
Caplan: “If Dean had not gotten hurt, I would think [Campbell would play] way more edge than inside ‘backer…now, it would not surprise me with Campbell if he’s there more inside.”
Mosher: “A lot of it’s going to development of the young guys who are on the edges and how healthy they stay. When I look at him, I keep thinking Frankie Luvu: a guy who you consider an off-ball linebacker but is frequently on the line of scrimmage causing all sorts of havoc and chaos in five- and six-man rushes.”
Reed Blankenship
Caplan: “I expect [a contract extension] to get done by the start of training camp.”
Mosher: “He’s a tricky extension to begin with because of how well he has performed, he’s a starter for a Super Bowl team, he’s still young, but on the flip side he has some athletic limitations and probably doesn’t deserve to be among the top 10 paid safeties.”
Cooper DeJean
Caplan: “They don’t know what they’re going to do with DeJean past this season. That’s why it’s imperative that they know if he’s going to be a full-time corner or just nickel or a combo safety/corner? Teams typically don’t play guys at three positions.”
