ITB: How Eagles Can Maintain Super Bowl Contention Status
The Philadelphia Eagles ended the 2024 season on top of the football world and are looking to remain there despite a flurry of offseason changes.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher identified 10 keys for the Philadelphia Eagles to make a return to the Super Bowl.

Inside Linebacker
Adam Caplan: “You can be just average, but it can’t be a problem.”
Geoff Mosher: “I have concerns, but I also feel confident that you have Zack Baun.”
Wide Receivers
Caplan: “If (DeVonta) Smith or (A.J.) Brown are out for a while, you need to have a competent number three receiver…Someone has to emerge as a quality backup receiver.”
Mosher: “Last year, they were fairly healthy…when A.J. Brown gets hurt, it’s an entirely different offense.”
Tanner McKee
Mosher: “He is QB2. Jalen Hurts has only played 17 games in the four years of being starting quarterback. The backup quarterback for this organization is huge.”
Caplan: “McKee was better than Kenny Pickett in practice last season.”
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Mosher: “If this team wants to win a Super Bowl and Trotter is starting five or six games, they need really good play from him.”
Caplan: “You would really like him to be a solid starter…He has the intelligence for it.”
AJ Dillon
Caplan: “The Eagles are still going to be a run team because (Saquon) Barkley’s here…if Barkley gets hurt, there are serious questions about volume with (Will) Shipley.”
Mosher: “If AJ Dillon is not only healthy, but he looks like the running back from his first two years with the Packers and Saquon Barkley’s healthy and behind that offensive line, holy cow.”
Tight End
Caplan: “If (Dallas) Goedert gets hurt, which history says is almost certain to happen, they have to have a solid number two. (Grant) Calcaterra is not a solid two, he doesn’t block well. There’s a reason why the Eagles have six other tight ends.”
Mosher: “They all bring something different to the table.”
Jalyx Hunt/Nolan Smith Jr.
Mosher: “This young edge tandem has to stay healthy, has to develop, and there’s going to be times because Vic Fangio only wants to rush four that they are going to have to dominate the person in front of them.”
Caplan: “The question is do the Eagles need a number one pass rusher? Smith has to take the next step.”
Tyler Steen
Mosher: “He just has to hold his own and be adequate.”
Caplan: “It can’t be a problem…They know they’re really good at tackle.’
Kevin Patullo
Caplan: “This is Jalen Hurts’ sixth playcaller of his NFL career. Kevin Patullo is the latest…the good thing he has worked with Patullo since 2021.”
Mosher: “The bottom line is the ideas have to be accepted. The coaching to Jalen and the coaching’s reception of what Jalen wants to do also has to be all aligned.”
Cornerback
Caplan: “They are very light at corner opposite of Quinyon Mitchell…(Kelee) Ringo needs to take these good offseasons, take it to training camp and win the job.”
Mosher: “That cornerback spot was manned by Darius Slay and he was pretty good. It’s hard to find good corners that can hold up.”
