ITB: Birds Preparing For Free Agent Exodus

by

NFL free agency is days away as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare for an exodus from several of their most important players.

On the latest “Inside The Birds” podcast, Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided the latest intel on the team’s free agents.

Gardner-Johnson

Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson will hit the open free agency market after a breakout season in 2022 after joining Philadelphia just before the season.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson

Geoff Mosher: “He was not a safety for the Eagles in the way Kevin Byard is a safety for the Titans or Jessie Bates was for the Bengals. A lot of his snaps were interior coverage. He’s something between a safety and nickel corner. While he might see that as being great optionality, it’s also fair to look at it and say you should probably be paid between what a good safety and good nickel corner makes.”

Adam Caplan: “Just running his name by other people, they see him as a jack of all trades. He’s a very unique player…It’s the turnovers that he gets, he makes up for some of the flaws.”

Isaac Seumalo

Caplan: “He can play either side – [offensive] tackle if you need him to in a pinch. He can play guard or center. Isaac has been a good story. He’s just a very effective player. It’s not a good guard or center free agent group. We know teams have him over Connor McGovern, the center for the Jets, over Bradley Bozeman, who had a bounce back year for the Panthers.”

T.J. Edwards

Mosher: “We know he’s going to get offers, he has teams that are hot on him. We also know he really likes being an Eagle. Whenever you put someone in a position where they have to choose money over where their heart is, that’s tough.”

James Bradberry

Mosher: “The Jaguars need cornerback help. You could see them being in on the race for Bradberry. I know the Vikings want to strike big in the secondary, the Cardinals are a team that I have been told to watch out for at corner. There’s never any shortage of team that want corners.”

Caplan: “Never say never about a guy coming back, but Bradberry would be a surprise.”
