The Intel With Greg Cosell: Birds' Hargrave, Broncos' Jones Headline Free Agent DLs

by

The Philadelphia Eagles registered 70 sacks in 2022 because of their defensive line.

But with multiple key players set to hit free agency, the team might have to look elsewhere to maintain its pass-rush excellence.

On the latest edition of ITB’s “The Intel With Greg Cosell,” Cosell joined Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher to evaluate the d-line free agent class.

Fletcher Cox

After 11 seasons, Fletcher Cox’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles could be finished

Javon Hargrave

Greg Cosell: “The key thing is pass-rush juice. He can win with speed-to-power, a bull rush, he can win as a gap penetrator. He is getting older, but assuming no drop off in his play, you’re getting a guy that would be an upgrade for most teams as an interior defensive tackle.”

Fletcher Cox

Cosell: “He was much more up-and-down in terms of his tape this year. He showed flashes of being Fletcher Cox, but I don’t think he played that way on a consistent basis…He’s not at the point in his career where he can play 60-70 snaps a game.”

Dalvin Tomlinson

Cosell: “He’s probably similar to a Linval Joseph, maybe moves better, but in terms of deployment within the context of a defensive front, he is more of that type of player than a pass rusher. He’s more of a run-stopping defensive tackle, big player.”

Dre’Mont Jones

Cosell: “If you’re looking at someone with pass rush traits and has athleticism and movement, you’re talking about Dre’Mont Jones. I view him as ascending. He’s the kind of guy, based on his tape and traits, that can get a long-term deal at a decent number.”

Yannick Ngakoue

Cosell: It’s interesting Ngakoue is on a different team every year because he can really rush the quarterback. He’s more of a sub-package player. He has juice off of the edge, he can bend, he has flexibility.”

Arden Key

Cosell: “He can line up outside or inside. He always flashes on film, he can disrupt the pocket, has great length. I would look at Key as a very desirable free agent.”

Frank Clark

Cosell: “He’s an explosive kid, can win off the edge or the high side, can bend, can flatten, can get to the quarterback, shows explosive traits at times. He is a good pass rusher.”
