“Best To Get Fresh Scenario”

ITB: Future Of Jalen Reagor Cloudy

by

As the end-of-season press conferences commence from the NovaCare Complex, are Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni fully committing to quarterback Jalen Hurts going forward?

On the latest Inside The Birds Podcast, Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan react to comments from Roseman, Sirianni and others. They also break down what needs to happen this offseason for the Eagles to improve.

Hurts Commitment

Geoff Mosher: “I don’t see them trading up to No. 1 or No. 2 to get a quarterback to be their guy next year, either, because they have a lot of holes and they’ve got three first-round picks. I don’t think they want to package them up to move up all the way up the draft. So it’s either you’ve got that small chance of getting yourself a [Deshaun] Watson or a [Russell] Wilson or whoever. I don’t think it’s gonna be Aaron Rodgers. Or you’ve got to go with what you got, and right now you got Jalen Hurts. Now maybe they’ll draft a quarterback in the second round or something like that, maybe to come in and compete. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not Jalen Hurts’ job, so they leave a little bit of wiggle room with what they say. But in general, this is a Jalen Hurts operation in my mind – unless they’re able to ‘get the bag’ as they say and get one of those big-time guys.”

Jalen Reagor

Mosher: “We’ll see what happens with Jalen Reagor. Everybody says, ‘Are the Eagles gonna trade him? Are the Eagles gonna get rid of him? Are they gonna cut him?’ I don’t think they’re gonna cut him. Maybe they look to trade or maybe it’s a mutual thing. Maybe he’s gonna want to get out and just be in a different atmosphere. If you’re already the No. 3 and every time you get on the field they’re going to boo you, I mean maybe it’s just best to get a fresh scenario.”

Derek Barnett

Adam Caplan: “What do you think about them bringing back [Derek] Barnett?”

Mosher: “No, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I think he’s gonna get a multi-year deal for too much money. He’ll get either starter or like top-end No. 3 rotational pass rusher money, but he’s not going to serve that purpose for the Eagles next year. So I wouldn’t pay him that.”

Team Needs

Mosher: “So linebacker and safety are two areas where I would expect them to make the kind of mid-level free agent moves to get someone that fits their scheme. They did that to get Nigel Bradham for Jim Schwartz before 2016. They did it to get Rodney McLeod and Malcolm Jenkins. They show you pretty frequently that they would like to address linebacker and safety with free agents.”

Caplan: “I agree with you. I think they’ll never take two safeties in the draft, they are not going to draft like one in the second round and one in the third and they’ll be their starters. That not the way they roll, I don’t agree with it … history shows [Howie] Roseman drafts a certain way and he usually doesn’t deviate from it.”
