Birds Announce Return Of Throwbacks

by

Finally, the Kelly Green uniform has come back for Eagles fans.

The team on Monday officially announced the return of their iconic 1990s logo and throwback uniform with helmet, which the Eagles will wear Oct. 22 at Lincoln Financial Field against the Miami Dolphins on “Sunday Night Football.”

The Eagles will be back in Kelly Green in Week 12 at home against the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 26.

The team announced that officially licensed Kelly Green jerseys, apparel, merchandise, and more are now available at all three Eagles Pro Shop locations – the Linc; Cherry Hill, N.J. Lancaster, Pa. – and at the team’s official online store along with Fanatic, NFL Shop, and Nike.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Kelly Green uniform and helmet this season, and are equally excited to celebrate our team’s history with Eagles fans everywhere,” said Jeffrey Lurie, Eagles chairman, in a statement. “This is something we have wanted to do for a long time, and from the feedback we have gotten from our fans, we knew they felt the same way.

“It was always important to us that we align the Kelly Green helmet with the classic throwback uniform of this era. The league’s recent rule change around alternate helmets allows us to do that now.”

After the NFL rule change that permitted for the entire throwback uniform, Lurie had said at this year’s Owners Meetings that he was excited for the legion of Eagles fans who had clamored for the throwback uniform that conjure images of Randall Cunningham, Eric Allen, Seth Joyner and past teams greats.

In the statement, Lurie also thanked head equipment manager Greg Delimitros for working “tirelessly throughout the process to bring this celebrated uniform to life” and added that “anticipation has been building for quite some time, so it is exciting to now be in a position to officially reveal them to our fans and the larger NFL community.”

This season will be the first time in almost 3o years that the Eagles play in Kelly Green. They wore a similar style of Kelly Green in Week 1 of 2010 to honor the 50th anniversary of the team’s 1960 NFL Championship.

They last wore the whole Kelly Green uniform and helmet in 1996.

“We recognize and appreciate the connection Eagles fans have to the Kelly Green uniform,” said Don Smolenski, Philadelphia Eagles president, in a statement. “These uniforms not only honor our past and the many legends who have helped shape our franchise along the way, they also represent the passion of our incredible fans and the generations that have been authentically linked by them.

“We are excited to celebrate the return of Kelly Green, and look forward to creating unique touchpoints around the uniform for our fans to take part in all season long.”
