Camp Update: Jurgens First Crack At RG ; Injury Updates

Second-year offensive lineman Cam Jurgens, a 2022 second-round pick, will get the first crack to win the starting right guard job.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, along with personnel chief Howie Roseman, conducted their annual pre-training camp press conference Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex as the Eagles took to the practice fields for warmups before the first camp practice.

“That’s where we’ll start today and see how it works outs,” Sirianni said.

Sirianni said Jurgens, a former Nebraska center who was drafted to eventually replace Jason Kelce, would get the first look at filling the vacancy left by former right guard Isaac Seuamalo’s free-agent departure to the Steelers.

Jurgens, picked 51st overall, didn’t start any games for the Eagles in 2022. He’s competing with rookie third-round pick Tyler Steen, a former Alabama left tackle, and fourth-year reserve lineman Jack Driscoll, who has started and played both right tackle and right guard for the Eagles.

Sirianni was less clear on a front-runner to be the lead running back among several candidates, including new additions D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny.

The third-year head coach said all running backs, including Kenneth Gainwell, Boston Scott and Trey Sermon, would rotate with the first team throughout camp and cautioned the media about trying to make assumptions based on personnel groupings.

As for the mandatory conditioning test before the start of every camp, Sirianni said everyone passed, but not everyone was available for practice.

Per the team to reporters at camp, here is the injury list:

  • OLB Haason Reddick (groin) will not practice
  • DE Derek Barnett (knee, ACL comeback) will be limited
  • CB Avante Maddox (toe) will be limited
  • WR Devon Allen (calf) was placed on Active/NFI list

Earlier, the Eagles officially announced the signing of wide receiver Deon Cain along with the release of tight end Dalton Keene.
