“Good, Positive” Injury Updates For Birds

Sirianni: Outlook Good For Kelce, Howard, Others

by

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni reported good injury news Monday, a day after several players – and an assistant coach – dealt with medical issues.

Sirianni said the news on center Jason Kelce (knee) was “good, positive,” and said he’s hopeful that Kelce and cornerback Steven Nelson (shoulder) can play when the Eagles take the field in about two weeks on Dec. 19 against the Washington Football Team.  The Eagles are bye this Sunday, giving the walking wounded some time to rest.

Sirianni also said he’s hopeful running back Jordan Howard, who has missed the past two games with a knee sprain, will be able to rejoin practice after the bye week, although the first-year head coach didn’t pin a timetable on any returns of any players recently injured.

Sirianni said there should also be an update next week on the status of Pro Bowl right guard Brandon Brooks, who has been out with a pectoral injury since Week 2. The Eagles are down to their third-string right guard.

There was no mention of running back Miles Sanders during Sirianni’s press conference, but Sanders on Sunday said he expected his injured right ankle to be improved before the Eagles play Washington. Sanders ran for a career-high 120 yards on a career-most 24 carries against the Jets.

As for offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, who missed the first half to receive medical examination at a nearby hospital for an undisclosed issue, Sirianni said Stoutand “was in just like normal” on Monday and didn’t disclose why Stoutland underwent an examination.

“I’ll let him answer those questions about anything, when you guys talk to him, you can ask him those,” Sirianni said. “I don’t want to put his business out there. But he was back on the sideline for the second half. I was sure glad to see him, and he was back at work [Monday]  rearing and ready to go.

“He’s really important to this coaching staff and this team. He’s the best offensive line coach I’ve ever been around and just excited that he’s here and he’s healthy and he’s on this staff.”
