Day 3 Prospects Who Could Interest Birds

by

Armed with plenty of ammunition, the Eagles are slated to make six picks Saturday, as the NFL Draft reaches its final day.

Those picks currently include: Round 4 (111th overall), Round 4 (130th), Round 5 (161st), Round 5 (165th), Round 5 (168th), Round 6 (191st).

Through two days, the Eagles’ haul has been minimal, though certainly impactful, having landed LB Jihaad Campbell and S Andrew Mukuba in the first and second rounds, respectively.

But for a team with multiple positions of need, where could the Eagles turn on Day 3?

Here are only some of my favorite Day 3 prospects who could help the Eagles:

Marcus Mbow getty

GETTY IMAGES: Purdue OT prospect could be a developmental project for Eagles OL coach Jeff Stoutland if the Birds draft him Day 3.

Marcus Mbow, G, Purdue (6-4, 302, 22 years old)

A three-year starter at Purdue, Mbow projects at a guard at the next level. Very fluid mover who works well in confined spaces and has offers good spatial awareness. Possesses the ideal blend of athleticism, fluidity and technical prowess that Eagles’ offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland covets. Started 32 games over his career, including 18 at right tackle and 14 at right guard.

Miles Frazier, G, LSU (6-6, 317, 23 years old)

Frazier, a Senior Bowl participant and three-year starter for the Tigers, brings size (6-5, 325) and is a powerful road grader who displaces defenders while offering length and positional versatility (experience at tackle as well). Adding to his appeal is that Frazier, a Camden, N.J. native, played against some of the premier talent in college football. Admission into Stoutland University would take his game to the next level.

Jalen Travis, T, Iowa State (6-8, 339, 23 years old)

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell are close friends, so the Eagles should have all the necessary intel on Travis, who the team hosted on a 30-visit during the pre-draft cycle. The 6-foot-8, 339-pound Travis, an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors (Coaches) and Senior Bowl participant, is still a work in progress, but the characteristics and ability to be molded under offensive line whisperer Jeff Stoutland figure to be enticing.

Chase Lundt, T, UConn (6-8, 303, 24 years old)

Lundt, a four-year starter for the Huskies, enters the NFL with plenty of experience and plays with good technique. The absence of preferred arm length and desired play strength could be a deterrent for some, but for the Eagles – under Stoutland’s tutelage – it would be a swing worth taking.

Jack Sawyer getty

GETTY IMAGES: National champion EDGE Jack Sawyer from Ohio State is a Day 3 prospect worth watching for the Eagles.

Jack Sawyer, EDGE, Ohio State (6-4, 260, 22 years old):

Sawyer, a two-year starter for the Buckeyes, looks the part, providing an imposing presence off the edge and power at the point of attack. While I wouldn’t define his game as being overly explosive or twitchy, it does exhibit a sound plan of attack and an unrelenting motor sure to be endearing. Sawyer combined for 15.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss over the past two seasons.

Bradyn Swinson, EDGE, LSU (6-4, 255, 21 years old):

Swinson completed his lone season as a starter for the Tigers, collecting 58 tackles (13 for loss) and 8.5 sacks. Swinson began his career at Oregon, spending three seasons there before transferring and playing the final two in Baton Rouge. The sparse production is likely why he hasn’t yet come off the board, as he managed only 13.5 sacks over 55 games.

Deone Walker, DT, Kentucky (6-8, 328, 21 years old):

At 6-foot-8, 328 pounds, Walker carries an imposing frame to go along with an 84-inch-plus wingspan and nearly 11-inch hands. Desired length for the position aside, Walker’s nimble, fluid movements are greatly aided by his basketball background. That, coupled with the off-ball explosiveness and athleticism, make Walker among the more intriguing Day 3 defensive linemen.

Ty Robinson, DT, Nebraska (6-6, 288, 23 years old)

Robinson has some tread of the tires, starting five seasons for the Huskers, but his ability to play virtually anywhere across the defensive line – aside from nose – to go along with a dense frame, heavy hands and physicality figures to be appealing. Over 60 games (47 starts), Robinson managed 134 tackles (26.5 for loss) and 12 sacks. He can immediately step in and provide a jolt to a rotation.

Jordan Phillips getty

GETTY IMAGES: If the Eagles covet a DT on Day 3, they could look at Maryland’s Jordan Phillips.

Jordan Phillips, DT, Maryland (6-2, 313, 20 years old)

Phillips, a two-year starter for the Terps, boasts a sturdy base and plenty of power at the point of attack to complement his alignment versatility. Very explosive player with violent hands. Minimal production, however, recording only 29 tackles (six for loss) last season. Watch the Iowa game, where Phillips notched nine tackles (one for loss). Played in a handful of games at Tennessee in 2022 before transferring.

Danny Stutsman, LB, Oklahoma

A three-year starter for Sooners, Stutsman racked up 100-plus tackles in each of the past three seasons. He demonstrates high-level football intelligence and swarms to the football. His coverage prowess has been up and down throughout his career and would like to see a bit more consistency, but he’s willing to fire downhill, finish plays and run through ball-carriers with ferocity. He’s a quick processor who uses his hands well to slip past blockers. Always around the action. Minimal ball production, however, pick up 11 passes defended and three INTs in his career.

Kobe King, LB, Penn State

The Eagles hosted King on a visit. The PSU product boasts a sturdy, compact build, but is a bit stiff in coverage and offers limited range. King is, however, technically sound and serves as an imposing second-level presence. Not an overly explosive player, running a 4.67 and managing a 9-foot, 10-inch broad. He weighed in at 243 at Pro Day and 236 at the NFL Scouting Combine. Would immediately become a core special teamer with upside to contribute situationally on defense.

Gunnar Helm, TE, Texas

Not flashy or explosive, running just a 4.84 at the NFL Scouting Combine, but Helm is a highly intelligent player with strong hands and the ability to churn out yards after the catch. He’s a work in progress as a blocker.

Oronde Gadsden II, TE, Syracuse

An easy mover with terrific body control and a knack for attacking the football, Gadsden finished last season with 73 receptions for 934 yards and seven touchdowns. The Syracuse product boasts a nearly 82-inch wingspan to go along with running a 4.6 at his Pro Day. Smooth change of direction and natural pass-catcher. Would be a strong addition in the fourth-round.

Damien Martinez getty

GETTY IMAGES: Miami RB product Damien Martinez enjoyed a productive final season with the Hurricanes.

Damien Martinez, RB, Miami (6-0, 217, 21 years old):

Martinez, a 2024 All-ACC Honorable Mention selection who rushed for 1,002 yards and 10 touchdowns, would bring a power element to the backfield. While showcasing his downhill prowess and contact balance, Martinez does have some wiggle to his game, just don’t expect those back-breaking, home-run style dashes. Would be a really solid complement to Shipley, who offers plenty of juice and natural receiving ability.

Devin Neal, RB, Kansas (5-11, 213, 21 years old):

Neal isn’t flashy, but rather a steady, consistent runner who produced three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons for the Jayhawks while also snaring 20-plus receptions a season over that span. He might not possess gaudy home-run speed, but he does showcase high-level vision and contact balance, and he finishes runs. The excessive amount of tread on the tires and developing pass protection may be a deterrent for some teams.

Jalen Royals, WR, Utah State (6-0, 205, 22 years old):

Royals, a two-year starter at Utah State, announced his arrival to college football in 2023, accumulating 71 receptions for 1,080 yards and 15 touchdowns. He finished last season with 834 yards and six touchdowns on 55 grabs. Fluid, easy mover with the ability to track the football and win on all three levels. Clocked a 4.42 at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Tory Horton, WR, Colorado State (6-3, 196, 22 years old):

A two-year starter for Colorado State, Horton in six games last season posted 26 receptions for 353 yards and a touchdown. In 2023, however, Horton rolled up 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns on 96 receptions. Horton, who ran a 4.41 at the NFL Scouting Combine, began his career at Nevada.
