4 Free Agents Who Can Help Eagles
The NFL’s “legal tampering” period began Monday at noon, and several teams have actively began agreeing to terms and exploring the market.
For the Eagles, who have several in-house players primed to hit the open market when free agency officially kicks off Wednesday, the process figures to look a bit different than last year.

As a result, here are four players at positions of need who could fit for a variety of reasons:
DT Dre’Mont Jones
Drafted by then-Broncos head coach Vic Fangio in 2019, Jones would bring familiarity and a veteran presence to a room light on experience. The 28-year-old played 55% of the defensive snaps last season for the Seahawks, accumulating 28 tackles, four sacks and 13 quarterback hits.
The 6-foot-3, 281-pounder, who has 30.5 career sacks and 63 quarterback hits, would provide positional versatility and a track record of production behind Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis, while also adding competition. Jones played three seasons under Fangio.
EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo
Likely to lose Josh Sweat in free agency, the Eagles lack for depth at edge rusher. With only third-year pro Nolan Smith and 2024 third-rounder Jalyx Hunt qualifying as viable contributors, expect the Eagles to address depth in both free agency and the draft.
Odeyingbo seems like a quintessential Eagles free-agent target, an ascending player who can slide into an impactful rotational role at a number that shouldn’t be cost-prohibitive, at least relative to the money Sweat presumably will command.
The 6-foot-6, 286-pound edge rusher last season started a career-high 14 games, accounting for 64% of the Colts’ defensive snaps. He racked up 31 tackles, three sacks and 17 quarterback hits.
Over the past two seasons, Odeyingbo tallied 34 quarterback hits. Adding a player like that and drafting a pass-rusher early should be enough to sufficiently restock the cupboard.

G Will Fries
Fries, a 2021 seventh-round pick of the Colts, has appeared in 41 career games (31 starts). The 26-year-old Penn State product is widely viewed among the more underrated free agents, and would be an ideal fit if Mekhi Becton signs elsewhere, furnishing the Eagles with much-needed interior depth and perhaps competing with third-year holdover Tyler Steen for a starting role.
There’s reportedly a strong market for Fries, though that shouldn’t disqualify the Eagles, as they’ve proven to invest in the trenches.
TE Harrison Bryant
The Eagles must begin prepation for the post-Dallas Goedert era. While hardly suggesting Bryant would be a suitable replacement, the Florida Atlantic product – a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Browns – would provide sorely needed depth.
Bryant, 6-5, 230, never amounted to much in the way of a receiving threat – he has just 877 receiving yards over five seasons – but he brings blocking acumen and potential for tight ends coach Jason Michael to work with. Another cost-effective option at a position of need who can compete with the likes of Grant Calcaterra and E.J. Jenkins.
