Sirianni's Stamp On Team Stands Out

by

NEW ORLEANS – Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni took to the podium Tuesday appearing confident and poised.

His demeanor, matching his team’s, served as yet another reminder of his growth and evolution in his profession.

He commanded the jam-packed, elegant hotel ballroom audience.

It wasn’t long ago that many were forecasting Sirianni’s downfall, a perception that gained momentum from some pockets of the public when the Eagles staggered into the bye week at 2-2.

Even in a slim victory against the Browns at home, cries grew louder from many on the outside, especially in the aftermath of an impassioned Sirianni getting into it with fans.

But in the turning point in the season – at a time when things could have easily derailed – the Eagles steamrolled the Giants at MetLife Stadium, 28-3, flipping the script and showcasing the sturdy inner workings of the 2024 Eagles.

The locker room rallied around Sirianni, turning the tide of their season.

It’s arguable that moment, back in Week 7 against their division rivals, lit the fuse and initiated the momentum that has fueled the Eagles to another Super Bowl.

But there was no magic formula. Sirianni attributes the bye week turnaround to putting in the work and continual improvement.

“This game, and anything worthwhile in this world, is not instant gratification,” Sirianni said. “It takes getting better every, single day. And that’s really what we did.

“We put our head down – you know, we felt like we had a great training camp and it didn’t start the way we envisioned it – but we just continued to work and continued to put the work in and put our head down and go and just continually got better.

“And I think we’re playing our best ball now … it’s because these guys with that constant effort of how to get better.”

While much of the focus understandably surrounded an Eagles team that boasted the NFL’s top defense and a 2,000-yard rusher, the leadership and maturation from Sirianni in his fourth year shouldn’t be lost.

The coach who always talks about continually improving has embodied those characteristics, learning from miscues and altering his composure – a challenging feat for a naturally emotional head coach.

Like the sign of any strong leadership figure, Sirianni stayed true to himself and doubled down on his convictions.

Sure, his role has mainly expanded into the CEO category, where he’s able to have the 30,000-foot view of his team, oversee all operations, and ensure culture remains a high priority.

For as much credit as Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts and Vic Fangio warrant for their roles in helping the Eagles reach this point, the head coach is every bit as responsible.

It’s time the outside gives him his flowers.

“Adversity does something to you,” Sirianni said. “And if you embrace adversity, it can shape you to who you are.”
