Barkley, Baun Earn First Team All Pro

4 Birds Make Second Team

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, the driving force to one of the league’s most explosive offenses and newest member of the 2,000-yard rushing club, was named first-team All Pro on Friday by the Associated Press.

Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns on 345 attempts. The three-time Pro Bowler also added another 278 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver and was named to All-Pro team for the first time of his career.

The more unlikely path to All-Pro honors for the Eagles, however, belonged to linebacker Zack Baun, who was also named to the first team.

Baun, signed to a modest free-agent deal back in March and sparingly utilized as a defender during his first four seasons in the NFL, accrued 151 tackles (11 for loss), five forced fumbles, five quarterback hits, four passes defended, 3.5 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery.

The 28-year-old linebacker, who will be a free agent this offseason, finished second among Eagles defenders in snaps (939), by far the most of his career.

Barkley and Baun both signed free-agent deals with the Eagles this offseason and just spent their first year with the Eagles, who went 14-3 to capture the second seed in the NFC playoffs.

The annual AP All-Pro teams remains among the most highly decorated – and most anticipated – regular-season awards. Only one player can be named to each position.

The selection process is polled through a national panel of 50 media members.

The entire first, second and third teams can be found here.

As for the Eagles, six players garnered All-Pro honors.

Wide receiver A.J. Brown, left tackle Jordan Mailata, right tackle Lane Johnson and defensive tackle Jalen Carter were each named to the second team.

For Mailata and Carter, this marks their first All-Pro selections. A strong case could be made that Mailata, Johnson and Carter deserved first-team consideration.

Johnson received 15 first-place votes and Mailata received 13 while Carter received 12 and Brown earned four.

Also, left guard Landon Dickerson received one first-place vote, as did center Cam Jurgens. Rookie slot cornerback Cooper DeJean garnered six first-place votes.
