Return Of The Wingman?

Devonta Smith Eyes Return Vs. Ravens

by

PHILADELPHIA – While the extent of his participation is uncertain, Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring) practiced for the second consecutive day.

Smith, who has been working through the injury for a few weeks, was unable to go last Sunday against the Rams. His return against the Ravens in Baltimore this Sunday in Week 13 would be a welcome addition to an offense that could be forced to take to the air.

Smith has 516 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 41 catches in nine games this season. He’s tied with fellow A.J. Brown for the team lead in pass targets (56).

It’s also worth noting that rookie wide receiver Johnny Wilson was spotted off to the side during team stretches.

Wilson, who played 70% of the snaps last Sunday, wasn’t on the Wednesday or Thursday injury report. The final injury report, released later Friday afternoon, will provide more clarity.

On the defensive side, the Eagles will be without cornerback Darius Slay (concussion). Slay, who suffered the concussion Sunday in Los Angeles, is still working his way through the protocol, and didn’t participate Wednesday and Thursday.

During the first handful of minutes open to reporters Friday, Slay was nowhere to be found. Look for veteran cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, who came on in relief of Slay against the Rams, to draw his second start of the season.

Two players to keep an eye on as the Saturday 4 p.m. practice squad elevation deadline nears would be TE C.J. Uzomah – who has one elevation remaining – and DE Tarron Jackson.

The logic behind the Jackson elevation is that newly acquired DE Chuck Harris might only have a limited package available on a short week whereas Jackson is familiar with coordinator Vic Fangio’s defense, having been with the Eagles for the spring and summer.

If Wilson can’t go, and the Eagles are intent on carrying six active wide receivers, the name to watch would be Danny Gray.
