‘Not Sustainable’
Sirianni Says Ball Protection Crucial Vs. Falcons
PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles, operating on a typical Wednesday schedule, returned to the NovaCare Complex practice field Thursday afternoon in preparation for their clash with the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football.”
Head coach Nick Sirianni, who spoke earlier on Thursday, noted that his message this week pertained to honing in on the details, acknowledging the Eagles were the only team to prevail despite losing the turnover battle. In his words, “that’s not sustainable.”
Sirianni, aware of a specific Week 1 shortcoming, also expressed his intent to fixate on the tackling aspect during practice. While the shoddy field conditions plaguing Corinthians Arena in São Paulo indubitably contributed to the deficiencies in that department, the Eagles as a collective must shore up that department to combat explosive plays.
The Eagles, in the home opener, will look to extend its record to 2-0 against a Falcons team that appeared overmatched against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With regards to veteran LB Devin White, sidelined for Week 1 with an ankle injury and unseated at MIKE linebacker in favor of third-year pro Nakobe Dean, Sirianni mentioned he preferred to keep those personal conversations private and in-house, though added that White has done everything required of him and that the team is going to need him, citing the marathon that encompasses an NFL season.
“He’s still a good player, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said Wednesday. “Tweaked his ankle last week. He’s still a part of it and will be a part of it.”
In injury news, both cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and linebacker Devin White were listed as full participants at practice. Rodgers missed the opener with a broken hand and White, now a backup, had an ankle injury.
Defensive tackle Milton Williams was limited with a foot injury. If he isn’t able to go, Williams’ void would likely be replaced by Moro Ojomo.
