DeJean Returns
Birds Second-Round DB Practices For First Time
Eagles second-round pick Cooper DeJean is practicing with the team in training camp Tuesday for the first time in his career.
The versatile defensive back, taken 40th overall, came off active/NFI as the Eagles were in Foxborough, Mass., to have a joint practice against the New England Patriots leading up to Thursday’s preseason game at Gillette Stadium.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said before practice that DeJean, who injured his hamstring during a workout before training camp started, would be limited at the practice and wouldn’t participate in team drills.
“He’s going to get some individual work today see how he feels,” Sirianni said. “He’s progressing nicely. Don’t know about team stuff yet, but let’s see how he is with individual.”
The Eagles said at the start of camp that DeJean would miss about three weeks, which is almost exactly the time that he missed as camp opened July 23.
Wide receiver Parris Campbell, who’s been out since the team’s Aug. 1 open practice at Lincoln Financial Field with a groin injury, also returned to practice, although Sirianni hinted that the veteran is “still working through some things” and might not participate in team drills.
Still out of practice is safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who didn’t play in last week’s preseason opener because of a shoulder injury that had kept him out of several practices.
Sirianni said Gardner-Johnson is “working through it,” and the team isn’t “expecting anything real long-term, but he’s just working through an injury.”
Here’s the full list of those not practicing:
