Eagles Fortify Hurting Tight End Position

With Josh Perkins out of practice because of an injury, and with Dallas Goedert nursing a broken hand, the Eagles on Tuesday bolstered their tight end corps.

After working him out, the Eagles signed free agent Tyrone Swoopes, a former University of Texas quarterback who converted to tight end and has played seven career NFL games with the Seahawks from 2017-2019.

Swoopes has two career receptions for 28 yards, including a 23-yarder in 2018 during a 28-3 win against the Raiders.

To clear room, the Eagles came to an waived/injured wide receiver Robert Davis.

Swoopes is a long shot to make the team. The Eagles are set with Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz and with Goedert, who enters his third season primed for a breakout. Rookie free agent Noah Togiai has also excelled during training camp, making a serious bid for the 53-man roster.

Swoopes joins Eagles wide receiver Greg Ward as pass catchers with quarterback pedigrees from college. He started 14 games for Texas (6-8) and finished with 3,038 passing yards, 13 all-time on Texas’ career passing list.
