Baun ‘Backer

Eagles Bring In Low-Cost Linebacker

by

On day one of the legal tampering period in free agency, Eagles personnel chief Howie Roseman has already made his seemingly annual one-year bargain acquisition at linebacker.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing LB Zack Baun, per ESPN.

Zack Baun

Baun joins the Birds after four years with the New Orleans Saints.

Selected in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Wisconsin, Baun showcased an ability to play both on and off the ball. In his senior year, he notched 12.5 sacks.

But with the Saints, Baun was used sparingly on the defensive side of the ball. This past season, the 27-year-old tied his career high with 30 tackles, starting six games, and registered his first two career sacks as a pro with more snaps coming off the edge.

One area where Baun has been able to make his mark is on special teams, where his snap percentage has increased each of his first four seasons from 59% in his rookie year to 83% in 2023.

There is still work to be done in the linebacker room, but the Eagles are still not expected to stray too far from precedence and break the bank for an LB after giving big deals to EDGE Bryce Huff and running back Saquon Barkley earlier in the day.
