Need Backup?
ITB: Eagles Could be Without Major Pieces Against Buccaneers
The Philadelphia Eagles are likely to be shorthanded when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided major injury updates ahead of the Week 4 matchup.
Lane Johnson
Geoff Mosher: “It’s slightly a little bit more encouraging that Lane Johnson was out on the field on Thursday. He didn’t have his helmet on. It is part of the protocol when you’re on the field, it means you’re working through it.”
Adam Caplan: “There are some cases when a player travels with the club and he gets clear by an independent neurologist in whatever city you’re going. Here’s why it’s at least a positive that he’s out there: You cannot be out there if you have light sensitivity issues…He’s a longshot but it’s just great that he’s out there based on his concussion history.”
Mekhi Becton
Mosher: “It looks like he is going to be alright to play. Now how well he plays is a question because a finger for an offensive line is huge, but at least he is going to give it a go.”
Caplan: “His left ring finger has ligament damage in it, so it’s going to be taped up. The key in practice this week is to see how effective it can be in live contact.”
Wide Receiver
Mosher: “Here’s what the picture will look like for the Eagles if A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith cannot play: your receiving core will be led by Jahan Dotson, you will have Johnny Wilson out there, and with Britain Covey out about six weeks, a likely elevation for Parris Campbell.”
Caplan: “John Ross is the only one with major experience in the scheme because he was with them in training camp, but he just got to practice so they have to see how he’s doing. Danny Gray has only been here a couple of weeks, same with Kyle Phillips. Right now, which is kind of a lock, it’s Wilson, Dotson, and Parris Campbell. They have to have a fourth, so someone else has to come off the practice squad.”
Todd Bowles
Mosher: “One of the challenges is Jalen Hurts doesn’t always play well against a Todd Bowles defense. I know they won last year in Week 3, but that was not a great game. He had a lower passer rating than Baker Mayfield.”
Caplan: “They only have one sack from their edge rushers. They could not get to Bo Nix last week.”
Baker Mayfield
Mosher: “While he has improved from a couple of years ago, he still has that issue when we talk about Jalen Hurts where there are sometimes where he just gets out of the pocket for absolutely no reason. He thinks there is going to be pressure and then he just takes away his options by leaving the pocket. If the Eagles can get a little bit of pressure, that’ll help them big time.”
Caplan: “He did not play well last week all of the numbers were bad.”
