‘Dire Situation’

ITB: Rash of Injuries Hitting Eagles

by

The injury bug has hit the 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles ahead of an important matchup against the undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan provided intel on the team’s injuries and potential replacements.

Nolan Smith Jr

Geoff Mosher: “We have seen this twice now. They have to make sure that he is fully healthy and ready to go. Brandon Graham tore [his triceps], came back for the Super Bowl, and retore it in the Super Bowl. Nolan Smith tears it in the Super Bowl, comes back, and now he has reaggravated it. This is a tricky injury.”

Adam Caplan: “(Vic) Fangio talked about it. They were trying to stay away from his left shoulder in training camp. Because it’s a re-injury and it’s a strain, it has to go away…It’s very realistic that we don’t see him until Week 10.”

Parry Nickerson

Mosher: “I look at the Nickerson signing and I think to myself that is Vic preparing for the off chance that with the injuries at corner that he may have to play Cooper DeJean outside and he’s maybe not ready yet to just hand the reigns over to Mac McWilliams.”

Lane Johnson

Mosher: “If you’re limited Wednesday, it’s then important to see how do you respond to that limited practice, what are you like on Thursday and can you get out there on Friday? I take it as a good sign that at least he got out there on Friday.”

Zack Baun/Jihaad Campbell

Caplan: “Both starting ILBs, Jihaad Campbell with the triceps and Zack Baun with a knee. They were at practice but they didn’t practice. Triceps, you have to be able to tackle and grab. That’s something you have to watch. Zack Baun with the knee was wearing a sleeve.”

Mosher: “That’s a dire situation even if one of them can’t play. I think Jeremiah Trotter Jr. can get in there, do a nice job, but from what we have seen from Campbell and Baun and how athletic they are, it’s hard if those guys come off the field.”
