Zach Ertz wasn’t the only household name the Eagles are bringing into the fold. According to a report from NFL Network, the Eagles are also adding veteran defensive back Kenny Moore to the practice squad.

Moore, 31, is expected to provide depth at both nickelback and safety, per NFL Network, supplementing the secondary depth with another versatile player.

Originally an undrafted free agent signing of the New England Patriots in 2017, Moore would ultimately spend his first nine seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, overlapping with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni for three seasons.

In 2025, Moore appeared in 14 games (7 starts), combining for 55 tackles (three for loss), six passes defended and an interception. If last season was any indication, Moore still supplies a skill set that can help this Eagles’ defense in a variety of ways once fully up to speed. His leadership, and potential added benefit of mentorship, is also worth noting, as Moore was named a team captain for the Colts on four occasions.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2021 — a year in which he combined for 102 tackles and four interceptions — Moore appeared in 123 games (111 starts) with the Colts. Scrappy and sticky in coverage, Moore was once recognized as one of the top nickels in football.

In Philadelphia, the capacity of his role remains uncertain. He must first become versed in coordinator Vic Fangio’s system, sure, though the potential of Moore moonlighting at safety is intriguing. The Eagles are thin at the position, and the addition of Moore increases the optionality.

He’ll contribute to a safety room that also includes Drew Mukuba, Marcus Epps, Michael Carter II and Cooper DeJean. Rookie Maximus Pulley, elevated for the Week 2 matchup in Nashville, reverted back to the Eagles’ practice squad.

Quarterback Shortage in Chi-Town?

When the Eagles travel to Chicago in Week 3, for their Monday night matchup with the Bears, there’s a good chance the expected quarterback draw doesn’t live up to its billing. That because Bears quarterback Caleb Williams sustained a hamstring injury in their 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

While reports suggest Chicago isn’t ruling Williams out against the Eagles, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said Williams is “week to week.”

Potentially complicating matters for Chicago is that Tyson Bagent, Williams’ primary backup, is dealing with a concussion and is in the NFL’s concussion protocol, according to a report from NFL Network. Bagent, who on Sunday replaced Williams, completed 5 of 9 pass attempts for 54 yards.

Should both quarterbacks remain sidelined, next in line would be veteran Case Keenum, who last attempted a pass in a regular season game in Week 15 of 2023. Of course, Keenum is a household name in Philadelphia. Then a member of the Minnesota Vikings, Keenum quarterbacked a Vikings team that was thrashed by Eagles in the NFC Championship in January of 2018. While it’s worth noting that the week is young, their practice statuses will be closely monitored in the coming days.

Practice Squad Shuffle

The Eagles on Tuesday announced the release of defensive tackle Gabe Hall from the practice squad. And according to the league’s transaction log, cornerback Robert Longerbeam terminated his contract with the team. Longerbeam, according to a report from NFL Network, is expected to sign with the Atlanta Falcons, who today placed cornerback A.J. Terrell on injured reserve.

Hall, who first signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2024, has been a good story of development. He was buried in a deep position room but had some positive moments, including making the 53-man roster outright in 2025. Hall, 25, appeared in two games for the Eagles last season, logging 13 defensive snaps and another four on special teams.

Longerbeam, 25, was a 2025 sixth-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens. The Rutgers product spent the entirety of his rookie campaign on injured reserve due to a preseason knee injury and was waived by the club this summer in the cutdown to 53. The 5-foot-11, 174-pound defensive back, who clocked a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, signed to the Eagles’ practice squad on Sept. 1

One of the two practice squad vacancies will go to Ertz, while the other is expected to belong to Moore.
