In Case of Emergency
Book Signed to Active Roster, Huff Activated
The Philadelphia Eagles made a flurry of roster moves on Saturday ahead of their Week 17 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.
Wide receiver Britain Covey (neck) was placed on injured reserve, ending his regular season. The third-year pro could potentially return, however, should the Eagles reach the NFC Championship game.
Fourth-year QB Ian Book, signed to the practice squad late this week, was added to the active roster, giving the Eagles extra insurance at the position. An elevation would have required Book to be active, taking away a game day spot. Instead, he’ll be inactive as the emergency third quarterback.
Returning to the active roster from injured reserve is EDGE Bryce Huff (wrist), whose 21-day practice window was opened on Dec. 18. Huff’s return made DE Charles Harris expendable, as the veteran was waived to vacate a roster spot.
Elevated from the practice squad this week were RB Ty Davis-Price and LB Dallas Gant. With RB Will Shipley (concussion) out, Davis-Price gives the Eagles three RBs on game day. Davis-Price has been on the Eagles’ practice squad since Week 1.
The Gant elevation replaces Nakobe Dean (abdominal), keeping the game day number of linebackers at four. He will help on special teams.
