Linebacker Moves
Elliss Waived; Leonard Signed; Cunningham Progressing Through Injury
The latest roster move for the Philadelphia Eagles hints at the team’s injury status ahead of their Sunday night matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
With the addition of four-time All Pro Shaquille Leonard to the Philadelphia Eagles linebacking core and the potential return of Zach Cunningham, Christian Elliss has been waived just days after playing 44 snaps in the 42-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
According to Wednesday’s estimated injury report, Cunningham (hamstring), who missed the end of Week 12 and entirety of Week 13, would have been a limited participant.
If Cunningham, Leonard, and Nic Morrow are all available to play on defense and the newly added to the 53-man roster Ben VanSumeren can hold down special teams, Ellis’ spot may be served better on the practice squad where he would have three eligible game-day elevations.
#Eagles waived LB Christian Elliss, makes room to add Shaq Leonard. Would expect Elliss to come back to practice squad.
Elliss would have three elevations for the team to use if needed.
Also: Greg Ward is back on the PSQ; Cam Sims waived.

On the ‘did not participate’ portion of the list were two newcomers: WR Julio Jones (groin) and CB Darius Slay (rest/knee). Jones had been limited in practice in previous weeks due to a knee injury.
Meanwhile, starting tight end Dallas Goedert (forearm) is listed as a full participant after a practicing in limited fashion last Friday, which according to ITB’s Adam Caplan is a good a sign for his availability after missing the previous three games.
