‘Pleasantly Happy’

ITB: Who's Stepping Up in Camp?

by

The Philadelphia Eagles’ training camp is ramping up by the day, providing a clearer picture of how the team will look in 2025.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Andrew DiCecco provided the latest camp standouts.

Linebackers

Geoff Mosher: “For what you’re looking for now: baseline athleticism, instinct knowledge, I think you have to be really pleasantly happy with Jihaad Campbell, Smael Mondon, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. throughout camp. They all seem to know what they’re doing pretty well.”

Andrew DiCecco: “It is a noticeable difference compared to years past. This collection of players all bring something to the table.”

Josh Uche

DiCecco: “There was a handful of plays that I thought he really acquitted himself well, particularly a play where he shed the block, got around the edge, forced Jalen Hurts to throw an ill-fated throw down the sideline. He has outperformed, to this point, Azeez Ojulari.”

Mosher: “Just like the way Jalyx Hunt last year seemed to be the only guy consistently showing up as an edge rusher, I feel like we’re saying that about Uche.”

Mac McWilliams

Mosher: “He could be one of those guys. I want to see if he makes his way to second team nickel, mixes in with the first teamers, because part of me does wonder if Vic (Fangio) sees enough of him at nickel if he mores comfortable with (Cooper) DeJean playing more safety or outside corner.”

DiCecco: “The faster he progresses, the more optionality he gives Vic Fangio. He breaks on the ball suddenly and with good quickness and anticipation. He makes up for his lack of size with football acumen.”

Tanner McKee

Mosher: “He’s using the middle of the field, getting the ball out quickly, and really splitting those seams a lot.”

DiCecco: “Just really good timing and pinpoint accuracy. He gets rid of the ball and processes things very quickly.”

Will Shipley

DiCecco: “He has unique qualities, but in order to get playing time to carve out a role, you have to prove that you can pass protect and that has been something that he has been working very diligently on to make sure he has that area shored up.”

Mosher: “That running back room becomes a lot more diverse and multi-optional when you consider what Saquon (Barkley) is but then Shipley’s ability to take the Kenneth Gainwell role and advance it even more as far as speed and passing game. But the pass pro and blitz pickup has to be there. We haven’t seem him yet in a situation where he has to sort.”
