Comeback King

The Philadelphia Eagles overcame a struggling offensive line and uncharacteristic defensive lapses with a heroic quarterback performance from Jalen Hurts to defeat the Tennessee Titans.

On the Week 2 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan gave their biggest takeaways from the thrilling 24-20 victory.

Jalen Hurts

Geoff Mosher: “Jalen made some absolutely terrific throws in this game. He hit (Dontayvion) Wicks while he was getting clobbered by Jeffery Simmons, the touchdown he threw to DeVonta (Smith) in the first half was beautiful…For Hurts to make those throws, to survive a lull, and then come back with a fourth quarter drive, it says a lot about him.”

Adam Caplan: “To have a game winning drive with no timeouts left…You have to be pleased with the pass game. They had significant protection problems, but Hurts still dropped dimes.”

Offensive Line

Mosher: “It was ugly at times. Clearly, the Titans were ready [for the lineup change], they put a lot of guys at the line of scrimmage…some of the scheming that (Robert) Saleh did to create one-on-one matchups against (Cam) Jurgens and (Drew) Kendall worked for the most part.”

Caplan: “They made the decision earlier in the week, as we understood it, that they were going to go with Kendall at center.”

Dontayvion Wicks

Caplan: “Tough as nails, knows where to go. He’s on time, where the ball needs to be.”

Defense

Mosher: “It almost feels like they’re going through it. They’re a little loose in areas that are surprising. Giving up a long run like that to Tyjae Spears on third-and-22, that is not this Eagles defense.”

Caplan: “They’re not giving up a lot of yards passing, but they’re just not able to shut these teams down. The run defense got off to a great start…but they wore down.”
