DC Fired After Mid-Season Demotion

In the midst of uncertainty, the most expected coaching move for Philadelphia Eagles has reportedly come to fruition.

Per NFL Network, Nick Sirianni has fired Sean Desai.

Hired as the defensive coordinator in February of 2023 to replace Jonathan Gannon after his departure for a head coaching job, Desai’s control of the defense lasted just 13 games.

GETTY IMAGES: Eagles DC Sean Desai has been fired after one turbulent season with the team.

Following back-to-back blowout losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, Desai was essentially replaced by Senior Defensive Assistant Matt Patricia in both play-calling and game-planning duties.

The change did not spark the struggling Eagles’ defense who continued to spiral downwards to become one of the worst units in the league.

Notable in the report is that the decision was made by Sirianni rather than Jeffery Lurie or Howie Roseman, suggesting he the team’s head coach will remain in 2024.

Also, the NFL Network reported that Patricia’s contract with the Eagles is up and he’s expected to look elsewhere for a job.

The Eagles now have a fresh start to find the right person to run the defense and have reportedly already been reaching out to different candidates.
