ITB: Eagles Addressing Needs Ahead of Draft
The Philadelphia Eagles are filling out the roster as much as they can ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed the team’s recent moves, current state of the roster, and more potential moves to make.
Jordan Mailata
Adam Caplan: “He loves to be coached and we know (Jeff) Stoutland coaches him hard. They have a very close relationship for a coach and player. It has been a great story and really one of the all-time not only Eagles story, but NFL story. It is one thing to be a good backup player and never play football in your life, but to be a very good left tackle and be one of the top left tackles is crazy.”
Avonte Maddox
Geoff Mosher: “The Eagles still needed help at nickel. Avonte was going to be allowed to go out there after being released and test the waters. At the end of the day, it made the most sense for him to come back to Philadelphia and for the Eagles to bring him back on a one-year deal.”
Caplan: “He should be their starting nickel again, but he is going to have competition from Tyler Hall, who is a very physical and smart player, nice story. I talked to someone with the Raiders who was around when he had to play a lot, competitive player. And then he put Isaiah Rodgers in the mix if and when he gets reinstated.”
Zach Cunningham
Mosher: “It depends on what their plans are for Zack Baun. If they are going to use him inside/outside, that really just leaves you at off-ball linebacker with Nakobe (Dean), Devin White, Oren Burks, and (Ben) VanSumeren. It sort of does open up the door if you still want to sign Zach Cunningham. Ideally, you have Dean and White as your starters and a really good backup in Oren Burks. But are you one injury away?”
Caplan: “From what we understand, they have not closed the door, but I would not put the odds on high. It sounded like at the start of free agency, this thing had a chance to happen and then they got White, Burks, and Baun.”
Right Guard
Mosher: “They need somebody for depth who is good enough to be able to start four or five games if you need them to…We were looking at the list of guards who are out there and there are guys who have started games.”
