ITB: Impact of Eagles' Offseason Acquisitions
The bye week is offering the 2-2 Philadelphia Eagles a chance to self-scout and reflect on their biggest offseason moves.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan reviewed how the team’s free agency and draft picks are panning out through four games.
Saquon Barkley
Geoff Mosher: “They deviated from their approach this offseason and after four games, we can say good thing they did because Saquon Barkley has wound up being their best player.”
Adam Caplan: “He looks elite right now…they gave him a great structure. The first two years are fully guaranteed. With him, it’s just about staying healthy. But so far, so good. It has the potential to be one of the best signing Howie’s (Roseman) regime.”
Mekhi Becton
Mosher: “I’d say he’s done a pretty good job at guard. I do wonder if the more he plays, it’s going to catch up to him.”
Caplan: “The fact that he took to guard immediately, this is a Jeff Stoutland specialty.”
Bryce Huff
Caplan: “$17 million a year for a free agent pass rusher who is young and looks like he has a chance to be a pretty good player is very fair. Unfortunately, he has been terrible here. Training camp was not very good either…I just can’t believe how bad the pass rush is.”
Zack Baun
Mosher: “Zack Baun looks like a good deal right now. He has been their most productive linebacker. He’s still learning some of the nuances of the game, we saw that in the Falcons game, but in general he is doing a very good job.”
Devin White
Mosher: “I feel like Devin White is destined to be this year’s Rashaad Penny: he is going to be on the team, make his money, and never play…He was benched last year and already on the downward trend.”
C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Caplan: “I know it’s only four games, but he was special two years ago. He brought the swagger…here, there has been no big plays.”
Quinyon Mitchell
Mosher: “Mitchell has been a pleasure to watch, grow and develop. He only played off-coverage in college, so he really has to learn the physicality and mindset of playing up. You hope that comes soon and I imagine that will.”
Caplan: “This is a learning experience playing man coverage, it’s just a work in progress, he has to get used to it. He’s real smooth, tough mentally, high-character, really smart kid, has good length. He’s ahead of schedule, better than probably people thought he would be.”
