Heading to the Market
Can Eagles Re-Sign Goedert, Others on Offense?
The Philadelphia Eagles now have an offensive coordinator in place, and there’s expected to be some tweaks on the offensive staff, but their busy offseason has only just begun. The NFL Scouting Combine awaits in a matter of weeks, and free agency looms shortly thereafter.
As it pertains to the latter, the Eagles will undoubtedly have some difficult decisions to make, with a surplus of in-house talent set to hit the open market in March.
Here’s a look at the collection of offensive personnel primed for free agency.

QB Sam Howell
Howell, acquired in late August to bolster depth behind Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee — the latter at the time sidelined due to a finger injury sustained in training camp — opened the season as the No. 2 quarterback before ultimately settling into his role on game days as the emergency quarterback behind McKee. He never appeared in a regular season game. Should a team this offseason inquire about McKee’s availability and entice the Eagles with an offer, retaining Howell to ensure experience behind Hurts could be a logical solution.
RB A.J. Dillon
Signed to a one-year deal last offseason, Dillon answered any lingering health questions — the former Green Bay Packer missed the entire 2024 season with a neck injury — with a solid training camp. Dillon enjoyed a productive start to the season, carrying 12 times for 60 yards through the first six games, but ultimately fell out of favor in Week 6, misjudging a kick return that placed the offense at the 5-yard line and then fumbling away a carry on the ensuing drive. Those blunders, coupled with the addition of Tank Bigsby, landed Dillon on the weekly inactive list until Week 18.
A self-proclaimed “vibes guy” and an engaging interview, Dillon was popular with teammates and brought valuable experience to the running back room, but it’s likely he’ll be playing elsewhere in 2026.
FB Ben VanSumeren (RFA)
VanSumeren is a restricted free agent. The Eagles won’t tender him, though it’s likely the ultra-athletic fullback/special teams ace returns for another summer to battle for a roster spot.
The team this season appeared to have a vision for VanSumeren, a terrific athlete, but the 25-year-old unfortunately tore his patellar tendon in the season opener — on the opening kickoff. He has made notable progress in returning to full strength and once fully cleared, VanSumeren would factor into the roster conversation.
WR Jahan Dotson
The compensation to acquire Dotson ahead of the 2024 season was rich — the Eagles parted with a conditional third-round pick and a pair of seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft — and his production was minimal. For perspective, over two seasons, Dotson was targeted 69 times, hauling in 37 receptions for 478 yards and a touchdown. There were flashes, such as his touchdown against the Packers in the wild card round and 27-yard reception that kickstarted the scoring surge in Super Bowl LIX, but Dotson had largely become an afterthought in a low-volume passing offense. The 25-year-old should have more appealing opportunities elsewhere.
“I definitely had patience before, but I really had to gain a different type of patience being here,” he said during locker cleanout. “It’s really some tough times, being able to not really maximize what I could do on the field. But it’s a part of this offense. I enjoyed my two years here. I learned a lot from being able to play alongside some of the best receivers in the league. I feel like it was a great experience for me, something I really needed in my career.
“I’m ready to maximize my talent, because I know I have a lot of good football ahead of me. I know I can help a football team win a lot of games, and I’m ready to do that.”
TE Dallas Goedert
It once appeared as though Goedert would be playing elsewhere last season, but the two sides agreed to a restructure in May, affording the 31-year-old at least one more season in midnight green. Goedert responded with a career season, setting the franchise record for most receiving touchdowns by a tight end (11). He also reeled in a career-high 60 receptions. His rapport with Jalen Hurts is evident and shouldn’t be discounted, and the Eagles don’t have a succession plan in place, so it’s possible the two sides reach an agreement and run it back for one more season. Goedert’s age and injury history could potentially make a reunion all the more feasible. That said, look for the Eagles to draft a tight end in April.
TE Grant Calcaterra
A 2022 sixth-round pick, Calcaterra has hung around as a reserve for four seasons, appearing in 62 games (22 starts). While receiving-centric, Calcaterra was often called on to in-line block last season, and although willing, his shortcomings on that front routinely contributed to putting the offense at a disadvantage. The 26-year-old isn’t to blame, however, as he was frequently put in a position in which he isn’t ideally suited. Calcaterra, sure-handed as a pass-catcher, is worth re-signing for depth purposes, but must be put in situations that better accentuate his skill set.
TE Kylen Granson
Originally signed to a one-year deal with the vision of fulfilling a role as a dynamic move tight end, Granson, 27, managed just 40 yards on seven receptions (nine targets) across 17 games (three starts). Granson, who accounted for 244 offensive snaps, instead starred on special teams, finishing with 290 snaps — fourth on the Eagles — collecting 18 tackles. His special teams value and experience could earn Granson another look in training camp, but realistically, it’s fair to envision a more fruitful opportunity to contribute as a pass-catcher elsewhere.
OL Brett Toth
Toth, an eight-year veteran, battled his way to a roster spot last summer, emerging from a crowded field of offensive linemen. The 2025 season was a breakthrough for Toth, who persevered through seven seasons often spent in limbo. He appeared in all 17 regular season games for the Eagles, starting four, including an impressive first career start at center against the Giants. The 29-year-old, valued in the building, climbed the depth chart in short order, becoming the top reserve at center and guard. Toth also functioned as a mentor of sorts for several of the younger linemen. Retaining his services feels like a no-brainer.
OL Matt Pryor
A well-traveled veteran, Pryor returned to the team that drafted him in the sixth-round back in 2018, fresh off a one-year stint with the Chicago Bears in which he logged a career-high in snaps (1,006). Pryor, who appeared in all 17 games (one start), registered 122 offensive snaps. The vision behind the signing, initially, was for the 31-year-old to provide experienced depth at tackle and guard. Technically, Pryor did, though he proved shaky in his opportunities, compelling executive vice president/general manager Howie Roseman to identify an upgrade to strengthen the crucial reserve role. Returning for the Eagles, with a year of experience to draw from, are 2025 draftees Myles Hinton and Cameron Williams. It’s also conceivable to foresee the team adding to the position in the draft.
T Fred Johnson
Credit Roseman for his preseason proactivity, striking a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars to reacquire Johnson — who departed last offseason — solidifying the backup tackle position while serving the swing tackle role on game days. Veteran free agent Kendall Lamm struggled in training camp and Pryor didn’t exactly inspire confidence in his opportunities. It was a move that proved invaluable, with Johnson starting the final eight regular season games and lone postseason contest (698 snaps in total) as starter Lane Johnson was sidelined with a Lisfranc sprain. Johnson largely performed admirably and keeping him in the building gives the Eagles capable depth and insurance, but perhaps a starting opportunity elsewhere awaits the 28-year-old.
