ITB: Jets D-Line Brings Unique Challenge

by

The Philadelphia Eagles have a chance to add on to their undefeated start and go 20-3 dating back to the beginning of last season.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher previewed the team’s Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets and gave their final score prediction.

Quinnen Williams

The Jets have a tough defensive line led by DT Quinnen Williams and DE Jermaine Johnson

Jalen Carter

Adam Caplan: “His ankle was not feeling great prior to Thursday’s practice, so he wasn’t clear to work. It would not be good if he does not work today. They are banged up, they have three defensive tackles who are hurt, two of them in the top three of their rotation.”

Fletcher Cox

Caplan: “The epidural is clearly working. He took his normal starters reps on Thursday. Barring a setback, he should be in the lineup on Sunday, have to see how he does today and responds to Thursday’s practice.”

Nakobe Dean

Caplan: “Limited on Wednesday and Thursday. The most positive thing is he is starting to work back. To me, unless he is taking a full practice, Nic Morrow would start on Sunday. If he full practices today, that would be fun because then the Eagles coaches would have to have a decision.”

Geoff Mosher: “It didn’t surprise me that Nakobe started out limited. When you are out four weeks and you have only played one game of the year, they have to ramp you back up. It’s tough to throw somebody back into the fire, especially with a foot injury on a linebacker. If you break your arm, you can still get on your treadmill, work out, and do conditioning things. It’s tougher when you have a lower leg or foot injury.”

Caplan: “It’s a sprained foot and you have to put pressure on it. They have to see stop-and-start, lateral movement. Because he is a downhill linebacker, he really has to be able to go forward really hard.”

Jets D-Line

Mosher: “They have some talent and they do play hard. They are a good front, they just have not made the splashy play, have not hit quarterbacks as much as you would want them to do. (Quinnen) Williams only has two sacks, Jermaine Johnson only has two sacks. But the Eagles can’t take the same approach as last week where they would put two or three bodies on Aaron Donald, because you can’t put two or three bodies on Williams and think everyone else can get blocked up.”

Caplan: “They have a nice rotation, it’s a really good front, you don’t key in on any one guy. They do play a Wide 9, the Eagles obviously know about this. They’ll handle it well, I’m just interested to see what the Jets try to do break down their protection.”

Sauce Gardner

Mosher: “He does not switch sides. I don’t think he is off to the same start as last year, but he is still a really good corner. Because you know he will always be on one side, do the Eagles try to put bunch formations on the other side, try to come out with more 12 personnel and get their run game going to set up later shots down the road?”

Breece Hall

Caplan: “I love this kid, this is a such a stud running back. Hall is really good, I know the Eagles have the NFL’s best run defense, but he also catches the ball.”

Final Score Prediction

Caplan: “I have it the Eagles 23, Jets 13.”

Mosher: “I think this game is going to start off slow but by the end the Eagles are going to have more pull away in the second half. I’m going to say the Eagles 31, Jets 16.”
