‘Culture Changer’

The Philadelphia Eagles face a major loss with Nakobe Dean entering the open free agency market.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed Dean’s free agency and potential fits.

Nakobe Dean

Geoff Mosher: “I can absolutely see this guy being the number one off-ball linebacker on plenty of teams’ boards, especially if that’s a 3-4 team playing some semblance of the (Vic) Fangio defense. But the medical red flags may give pause to just how many years and how much money. It might be a situation, I doubt it, but if the market’s not good, he’ll just sign a one-year deal.”

Adam Caplan: “If you’re Nakobe Dean in the prime of your career, you have to go somewhere where you’re not going to share time.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mosher: “If I was Todd Bowles and I’m losing Lavonte David and I love to blitz my linebackers, I feel like [Dean] is the perfect fit for what I do.”

Caplan: “Under contract, it’s SirVocea Dennis, Deion Jones and Anthony Walker off the scrapheap. That would be a good spot for him.”

Dallas Cowboys

Caplan: “Kenneth Murray didn’t work out in that trade, (De’Marvion) Overshown they continue to say is going to be ready to go, Jack Sanborn is up. They have nothing. You want someone who knows the defense. If I’m Christian Parker, I am telling Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, and Will McClay that I have to have my guy who is going to run the defense and that is Nakobe.”

Mosher: “That team needs not just a great player, but a tone setter, someone who knows the defense, a glue guy. He can be a culture changer for the Cowboys defense. They have needed one for so long.”

Washington Commanders

Caplan: “(Frankie) Luvu will start. They’re going to run a 34, as I understand it…They’re a team that’s in transition”

Mosher: “The Commanders have to get younger. I think Nakobe is a good fit for them, but they need to be healthy. If they did a one-year deal and that’s the best he can get, they need somebody who’s track record is staying healthy and making plays.”
