The Philadelphia Eagles filled another important position on their defensive coaching staff.

Former Tennessee Titans ILB coach Bobby King will join the organization in a similar role, per ESPN.

Eagles hire former Titans/Texans Assistant Bobby King as ILB coach

King joined the Titans in 2022. Prior to that, he had spent eight total seasons in two stints with the Houston Texans coaching linebackers and defensive line from 2011-13 and then again from 2017-21.

Unlike other previous hires the team has made, King has not coached under new Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. However, he is very familiar with Head Coach Nick Sirianni.

When Sirianni was coaching for the San Diego Chargers as a quarterbacks and wide receivers coach, King was the team’s assistant LBs coach from 2014-16.

Under King’s watch in 2023, pending free agent LB Azeez Al-Shaair had a career year, posting 163 tackles (most under the Titans’ name in franchise history) along with four pass defelctions.

King will now be tasked with coaching up a visible 2023 weakness. Between Nakobe Dean Zach Cunningham, Nic Morrow and Shaquille Leonard, the team could not find the right combination for success in the middle of the field.

The Eagles had reportedly interviewed Joe Barry, who took the job as the Miami Dolphins LB coach as well as Mike Caldwell who is joining the Las Vegas Raiders staff. New Packers LB coach Anthony Campanile, formerly with Fangio on the Dolphins, reportedly had interest from Philadelphia as well.
