The defensive overhaul for the Philadelphia Eagles is going beyond just the coordinator.

Defensive line coach Clint Hurtt and defensive backs coach Karl Scott are reportedly joining new DC Vic Fangio’s staff, per NFL Network.

Hurtt arrives to Philadelphia after a seven-year stint with the Seattle Seahawks, first as a positional coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator prior to the 2022 season, coaching success out of players such as Frank Clark and Jarran Reed.

Prior to this, Hurtt was with Fangio in Chicago as outside linebackers coach from 2015-17.

The 38-year-old Scott has spent the last two years under Hurtt in Seattle as the secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator and was the defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021.

Prior to his NFL stops, Scott was a national-title-winning defensive backs coach for Alabama from 2018-20. Eagles CB Josh Jobe was a starter during his time.

Scott brings experience in teaching split-field coverages, a key principle to the Fangio scheme.

While no official word has been given, this likely marks the end of the tenures of the Eagles’ d-line coach Tracy Rocker and DBs coach D.K. McDonald. The team is also looking for a new inside linebackers coach, reportedly interviewing Joe Barry and Mike Caldwell.
