Eagles Trade for Texans Wideout

by

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly added to their receiver room on Sunday afternoon, acquiring fourth-year wide receiver John Metchie III. According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, the Texans receive tight end Harrison Bryant and the Eagles’ original 2026 fifth-round pick. In addition to Metchie III, the Eagles receive the Texans’ original 2026 sixth-round pick.

Metchie III, a 2022 second-round pick, has appeared in 29 games (three starts), compiling 40 receptions for 412 yards and a touchdown. He joins a loaded Eagles’ wide receiving corps that includes, among others, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith. Last season, in 13 games, Metchie pulled in 24 of 37 targets for 254 yards and a touchdown over 381 snaps.

In Philadelphia, Metchie III reunites with Smith, his former teammate of two seasons at Alabama.

As for Bryant, who signed a one-year deal in March, the veteran tight end had a relatively quiet summer amid a crowded position group and appeared to have an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. His departure presumably leaves Kylen Granson and E.J. Jenkins vying for a final slot on the depth chart that may or may not even exist.

Interesting trade. I loved the player in college but find it odd they made this move at this stage of the season. Im guessing he has 1 year left on his rookie deal so this will likely be a red shirt year for him similar to Dotson.
