‘Lateral Move’
ITB: Is Jaire an Upgrade Among Current CBs?
The Philadelphia Eagles used the bye weekend to double dip into the cornerback trade market, acquiring Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens.
On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher discussed the recent trade and current state of the cornerback room.

Jaire Alexander
Adam Caplan: “He was, at one point, a top five corner. Then he had the knee problems…[the Packers] offered him a pay cut, he said no. He had opportunities to go to Baltimore or other teams but he wanted to reunited with a college teammate Lamar Jackson. He had a little bit of a knee issue then he got healthy. They suffered so many cornerback issues and they wouldn’t even play him. The word was conditioning.”
Geoff Mosher: “It’s a dart throw, doesn’t hurt them…you’re trying to make a move that will help your team, this is definitely not a move where you can definitely say you upgraded your team. It’s a lateral move with hope, but Howie Roseman has said a lot of times as general manager that hope is not a strategy.”
Jakorian Bennett
Mosher: “He is one of the most important players if this defense wants to get where it hopes to be if he can get out there and be just a good corner. Darius Slay did not make a Pro Bowl or All-Pro last year. He was beatable at times, but he was good enough. You’re just looking for someone to stabilize it.”
Kelee Ringo
Caplan: “I know their numbers aren’t bad, but they’re not throwing at him much. There’s no one who works in the National Football League that think Ringo is a starting cornerback.”
