‘Un-Sirianni-Like’

An all-around rough night for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Chicago Bears saw major struggles on both sides of the ball.

On the Week 3 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan broke down what went wrong in the 27-7 defeat on Monday night.

Geoff Mosher: “You didn’t have to take a timeout there when (Andy) Dalton came in to check on your quarterback…take a timeout to settle your offense, give your first-time playcaller another minute to give your quarterback who just came into the game a really easy throw or throwaway. You don’t want him confused and trying to make a play that wasn’t there, which is exactly what Andy Dalton did.”

Adam Caplan: “The fourth-and-1, trying to draw them offsides. Why would you not go for it?”

Mosher: “It was almost so un-Sirianni-like, it really validated his point that everybody just had a bad game.”

Vic Fangio

Caplan: “Fangio is a genius and a phenomenal coach, but he has to redo his gameplan. What he’s doing is not working.”

Mosher: “It does seem like these specific offenses, the ones that are heavy motion and under center play action…Vic’s great and nobody has to remind him that he needs to better, but he does have to figure out a way to get his defense to play better against these specific offenses.”

Caplan: “In every zone defense, there are voids. You just have to find them, and Ben Johnson found them.”

Run Game

Caplan: “They were running the ball beautifully, the first time in three games that (Saquon) Barkley is understanding the timing of outside zone and when to cut and how to read your blocks…We don’t know what the hell happened in the second half, that was atrocious. They couldn’t do anything right.”

Mosher: “It looked to me that the Bears were starting to shoot gaps with linebackers or a second-level player, just to have one more gap covered up and maybe force Saquon into a cutback…I thought the offensive line was resetting the line of scrimmage on those wide zone runs and giving Saquon a really good hole. They were running the ball really well in the first half and it literally just fizzled out and died.”

Mosher: “The interception he threw to TJ (Edwards) was unfortunate because that was the same exact look that had happened two drives earlier where he almost threw it to TJ. He thinks it’s a blitzer and not a dropper and he’s trying to throw it to the spot.”

Caplan: “Chicago did a much better job of what the Titans and Commanders couldn’t do. Hurts was so good throwing over the middle of the field, but Chicago changed the picture post snap.”
