Stuck in a Rut

The Philadelphia Eagles looked well on their way to a blowout victory over their NFC East foe Dallas Cowboys, but a 21-0 lead vanished into a 24-21 defeat.

On the Week 12 edition of “Inside The Birds Postgame,” Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan discussed what went wrong.

Offense

Geoff Mosher: “It’s the same thing week-after-week: the same routes, the same signs. They have been unable to figure it out and to me that’s a reflection on coaching. They’re a good coaching staff, but they’re in a rut.”

Adam Caplan: “They had a bunch of plays called back in this game. It was embarrassing. You can’t lose games like this.”

Run Defense

Caplan: “Their run defense was atrocious…(Javonte) Williams is not explosive at all, he had so much room to run. I’m stunned by that.”

Mosher: “I thought Dallas would run the ball better against the Eagles than most because their offensive line was fully healthy. I thought they would have a respectable run game to try to work their play action. They wound up having more. I don’t want to call it backbreaking, but it really did complement what they did from the second quarter on offensively.”

Run Game

Caplan: “They can’t sustain anything on offense because they can’t run the football. We can talk all we want about (Jordan) Mailata is not the same player he was last year, (Landon) Dickerson is not, (Cam) Jurgens had a number of plays in the game that were not great. (Tyler) Steen is on the job training. Lane (Johnson) out, Fred Johnson is in. Obviously the line is performing well under their standards…I don’t know why they insist on running inside.”

Mosher: “I have given up thinking it’s going to come. There’s no one person that can be accountable for all of this. I think the offensive line is the number one issue.”
