ITB: Will Eagles Fill Depth Needs at Key Positions?

by

The 8-1 Philadelphia Eagles have returned from their bye week with a tough schedule ahead and plenty of questions at different positions.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher provided intel on the team’s recent workouts and injury situation.

Cam Jurgens

The Eagles are likely to welcome back starting right guard Cam Jurgens back from injury following the bye

Andrew Norwell

Adam Caplan: “He was once the highest paid guard in NFL history. He signed a monster deal and never lived up to it. He was released by Washington in the offseason and had to recover from an injury. If you are trying to make a Super Bowl run, why not look at his experience? You film the workouts and give him a physical, so now you know physical where he is at. If they want a veteran with experience, that is your guy.”

Geoff Mosher: “It is good to have a veteran offensive lineman on the squad. He was with Carolina, went to a Super Bowl, signed with Jacksonville and had some good years, his last year or two he started to tail off…He has a lot of mileage on his body, so maybe a little time off helps him get his strength back.”

Inside Linebacker

Mosher: “The Nakobe Dean does not hurt them from a starting standpoint because Nic Morrow and Zach Cunningham are doing a fine job. The question is from a depth standpoint because if one of those two guys get hurt, you are looking at Christian Elliss or Ben VanSumeren. If I am Howie Roseman, I am not comfortable with that and I am looking around the league or on the street. I think they need to find an insurance policy for the practice squad in the form of a veteran.”

Caplan: “They are playing with fire with no veteran depth. They are trying to make a Super Bowl run.”

Justin Evans

Mosher: “You have to think if you see Justin Evans as a full participant in practice any time this week that he is going to be active and play. He is a safety, but he has spent some time in the slot and is more equipped to help out than Sydney Brown and Eli Ricks.”

Cam Jurgens

Mosher: “I would anticipate him being back. He was into the practice window last week, didn’t play him, then you had the bye week so it almost gave him a built-in extra week.”
