The Philadelphia Eagles will need several reinforcements in the secondary as they enter free agency.

On “The Intel With Greg Cosell” the legendary NFL analyst Cosell joined “Inside The Birds” hosts Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher to discuss the defensive back free agent class.

Kam Curl

Greg Cosell: “Curl has predominantly been a box player and at times has played in the slot. Washington played a lot of big nickel with three safeties. He is a player I have always liked. He can play on the backend, certainly in a quarters structure as a base look.”

Antoine Winfield Jr.

Cosell: “Winfeld is a complete safety, he can do whatever you want him to do. He can play on the backend, sees things very well with vision and clarity. He can play in the box and be aggressive as a run defender, he is an outstanding blitzer… Winfield to me is a top three safety in the league. I think he a tempo setter for the defense and they need that kind of player.”

Jaylon Johnson

Cosell: “Johnson is a really good corner. The Bears defense over the last eight or nine weeks was one of the best defenses in the NFL. Johnson when healthy, with his size, length, his ability to press, ability to play zone, he would fall in the top five to seven corners in the league.”

Eli Apple

Cosell: “Eli Apple is now familiar with (Vic) Fangio system. Apple has always had traits. He has been with a lot of teams for any number of reasons. He certainly knows the system, terminology, methodology, he is going to know the checks that go with it. That means a lot. Apple is long and athletic. You wouldn’t call him a star corner, but wherever he is he has been okay.”

Kenny Moore

Cosell: “Moore at one point was one of the best slot corners in the league. He plays outside in base, is a good player. Another guy that I think brings a little bit of an attitude, smart guy who understands a lot of things. I don’t believe he has ever played in a Fangio style defense. He is savy, smart, and aware.”
