ITB: An Early Look at the Retooling Cowboys

The chief NFC East rival for the Philadelphia Eagles is undergoing a massive overhaul.

On the latest episode of “Inside The Birds,” Adam Caplan and Geoff Mosher gave a pre-draft outlook of the 2025 Dallas Cowboys.

Brian Schottenheimer

Adam Caplan: “There was surprise around the National Football League that Schotty got the job. A lot of people thought he would just be a career coordinator or position coach. No one really saw him as a head coach…He’s forward thinking, believes in data and analytics.”

Geoff Mosher: “This is about as close to daring that Jerry Jones is going to get because Schottenheimer as never been a head coach before. If you want to be encouraged as a Cowboys fan, I think he will bring a different approach in how he runs the Cowboys offense, it’s just on the team to deliver him some personnel.”

Offensive Line

Caplan: “Tyler Guyton needs to be better. Terence Steele, their right tackle, is highly paid. Cooper Beebe is their center. Tyler Smith was drafted to be the replacement for Tyron Smith, but they threw him at left guard and he has been terrific…They have to figure out right guard.”

Mosher: “If Tyler Guyton is not an improved player, this could be a below average offensive line. You’re talking about Tyler Smith as a very good piece at left guard, Cooper Beebe is okay, Brock Hoffman ended the year playing right guard, Terence Steele just hasn’t played very well.”

Matt Eberflus

Mosher: “Eberflus was not a very good head coach in Chicago, but he was a good defensive coordinator in Indianapolis and his team was known for being good against the run and taking the ball away.”

Linebackers

Caplan: “(DeMarvion) Overshown cannot stay healthy. Kenneth Murray has been an enigma, he has been one of these guys that was highly touted as a great college linebacker, but has never gotten it done [in the NFL.] Key and diagnosing has been his problem.”

Mosher: “Murray is going to be a really interesting litmus test because Matt Eberflus is known for being a linebackers coach specifically. Not surprisingly, they also signed Jack Sanborn.”
